A food trigger tracker for people who hate food diaries

The NHS suggests keeping a diary of what you eat to work out which foods trigger IBS symptoms, and its food intolerance page says symptoms usually come a few hours after eating the food. Both points are easy to agree with and hard to do on a Tuesday afternoon.

PoopAI cuts the diary down to what you can keep up: a photo or a few words per meal, a tap per poop. The tags and the timing do the rest.

Who is it for?

  • People who suspect dairy, gluten, caffeine or a FODMAP group but aren't sure
  • Anyone asked by a GP or dietitian to keep a food diary
  • People who forget to log by lunchtime
  • Anyone testing one change at a time, like cutting coffee for two weeks

How does it work?

Step 1

Log the meal

Photo or text. "Latte and croissant" is enough.

Step 2

Check the tags

PoopAI tags likely suspects such as dairy, gluten, FODMAPs and caffeine.

Step 3

Log poops as they happen

Tap a Bristol type, with an optional photo.

Step 4

Read the week

Weekly reports and trend charts show which tags came before changes.

Meal logging by photo or text

Photograph your plate or type "toast, peanut butter, coffee". Both count.

Food trigger tags

Meals get tagged for common suspects like dairy, gluten, FODMAPs and caffeine, and more.

How long after eating should I look?

The NHS says food intolerance symptoms usually start a few hours after eating and can last hours or days. So look across the same day and the next, not just the next poop. Our guide on how long food takes to affect poop goes further.

What should I do when a tag keeps showing up?

  • Don't cut foods out on your own. The NHS says not to cut foods out of your diet without advice from a GP or dietitian, and coeliac tests need gluten still in your diet.
  • Take two to four weeks of logs to a GP or dietitian.
  • If you're testing FODMAPs, do it with a dietitian, as Monash recommends.

What does a week of logs look like?

Mon 08:00 Meal: latte, croissant tags: dairy, gluten, caffeine
Mon 11:20 Poop: type 6
Tue 08:00 Meal: black coffee, banana tags: caffeine
Tue 09:40 Poop: type 4
Wed 08:00 Meal: latte, toast tags: dairy, gluten, caffeine
Wed 11:05 Poop: type 6
Paper note: try oat milk next week

What do you log, and what don't you?

You log in PoopAIPoopAI doesn't log
Each poop as a Bristol type, 1 to 7, with an optional photoSymptoms such as pain or bloating
Meals by photo or textMood, stress or sleep
Trigger tags such as dairy, gluten, FODMAPs and caffeineFluids, medicines or periods
Times, so meals and poops line upFODMAP amounts or grams

Fewer fields is a choice: it keeps each log to a few seconds. If you want to remember a sore tummy or a stressful day, jot a paper note next to the date.

What about privacy?

  • Google Play Data safety (checked November 5, 2026): no data shared with third parties, no data collected, data encrypted in transit, and you can request deletion.
  • App Store privacy label (checked the same day): contact info may be linked to you; health data is not linked to you.
  • Stealth "HealthAI" mode disguises the app on your home screen, and the Android listing says poop photos are pixelated.

Quick answers

Does PoopAI tell me what my triggers are?

No. It tags meals and lines them up with your Bristol types so you can spot possible patterns. A GP or dietitian can help confirm them.

Which triggers does it tag?

Common suspects such as dairy, gluten, FODMAPs and caffeine, and more.

Can I log food by text?

Yes. Meals can be logged by photo or text.

Does it count FODMAP grams or rate foods?

No. Use the Monash University FODMAP app for food ratings.

How long until I see a pattern?

Most people need two to four weeks of steady logs. One bad day proves very little.

Should I stop eating gluten if it keeps showing up?

Not before talking to a GP. The NHS says keep eating gluten until coeliac tests are done so results are accurate.

Can PoopAI diagnose IBS or other conditions?

No. PoopAI is a diary, not a medical device. It helps you notice patterns and show them to a doctor or dietitian, who can diagnose.
