Step 2 is where the real answers live, and it's also where most people lose track. Three days of garlic, three days of milk, and by Friday you can't remember which day things changed.
The Monash app has a diary for recording symptoms. PoopAI covers the meal and poop side of that record with a few taps; add your symptom notes on paper.

Photo or text; FODMAPs and other tags are added.
Tap a Bristol type, with an optional photo.
Weekly reports show each challenge week at a glance.
Pick a type from 1 to 7 in a tap. Add a photo only if you want to.
Photograph your plate or type "toast, peanut butter, coffee". Both count.
Meals get tagged for common suspects like dairy, gluten, FODMAPs and caffeine, and more.
See how your food and your poop line up over the week. Yours, not an average person's.
| Step (Monash) | What happens | What to log in PoopAI |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Low FODMAP, 2 to 6 weeks | Swap high FODMAP foods for low FODMAP alternatives | Meals and poops, to see if your Bristol types settle |
| 2. Challenges | Stay low FODMAP, but eat a food rich in only 1 FODMAP group daily for 3 days | Each challenge meal, tagged, and every poop for those days |
| 3. Personalize | Bring back what you tolerate; restrict only what you need to | Occasional weeks to check things stay steady |
If symptoms don't improve after Step 1, Monash says your IBS may not be sensitive to FODMAPs, and other therapies such as stress reduction or gut-directed hypnotherapy may be worth discussing.
